There are no visible tombstones inside this enclosure but on the
outside was found one foot marker with the initials, J. McF. On
it. It is our thinking that this is a marker for the grave of
John S. , Jacob, or Jessie McFarland who had come to Cooper
County between 1815 and 1820 after William McFarland, the first
sheriff of Cooper County, who resided on the Byler farm now
owned by
Larry Lymer of the Rankin Mill Community.
Nevertheless they give:
McFarland, Jacob, born 21 Feb 1772; died 13 Oct 1846; husband of
Matilda (Fleming) McFarland; husband of Nancy (Cathey) McFarland
(deceased 1846) ; (buried?) Note: Nancy Cathey was a daughter of
George Cathey, a Revolutionary Soldier. These families came to
St. Genevieve Co., Mo., in about 1816; lived there for two
years; and in 1819 came to Cooper Co., where they lived out
their lives.
40. Jacob MCFARLAND (John , John , Robert , Unknown Male ) was
born on 21 FEB 1772.
Jacob married (1) Nancy CATHEY in 1795/1799 in Pigeon Valley,
Buncombe, North Carolina. Nancy was born on 18 JAN 1780 in
Burke, North Carolina. She died on 29 AUG 1870 in Boonville,
Cooper, Missouri.

Jacob McFarland great grandfather was born Feb 21 1772. Nancy
(Cathy) McFarland his wife was born Jan 18 1780 and came to this
state from North Carolina in the year 1816, and settled on a
farm four miles south of Boonville MO., near the Petit Saline
creek. They were the parents of Sallie George, wife of Reuben
George; Sarah (McFarland) George was born in the state of North
Carolina on January 13th 1802.
