William McGEHEE MACKGEHEE II

1 Nov 1702 - 20 Mar 1796

ID Number: I40720

Father: William MCGEHEE I
Mother: Mary CARR

Family 1 : Elizabeth MCCULLOUGH

Notes

Aka: William MACKGEHEE , Jr. 2 William Jr. MCGEHEE b: 01 Nov 1702 d: 20 Mar 1796 + Elizabeth MCCULLOUGH b: abt 1710

"There is considerable disagreement between McGehee/Magee researchers concerning William MackGehee's parents and children. Much of this confusion stems from the fact that descendents of William MackGehee, Sr. and his brother Samuel lived, farmed and socialized within a rather small area comprised of the four corners of Caroline, Spotsylvania, Hanover and Louisa counties, primarily separated by the North Ann River. Several of these descendents over three generations were named William and it is not always possible to distinguish one from another. It has been concluded by most researchers that William MackGehee, Jr. (son of William MackGehee, Sr. who died before Dec. 1748 in Caroline Co., VA) was born about 1702 and probably in New Kent Co., VA.

Many researchers have also concluded that this William MackGehee, Jr. married Elizabeth McCullough, (daughter of John McCullough) about 1730 and that they probably had at least one child prior to moving from VA to Edgecombe Co., NC. Early records of Edgecombe Co., NC show that John Steward on 22 Aug. 1733, deeded to "William Magee of Edgecombe Co. a plantation on the north east side of Fishing Creek whereon Magee now lives". On 30 May 1748, Joseph Moore deeded 120 acres of land on the north side of the Conehoe River in Edgecombe Co. to son-in-law William Magee (believed to have been the oldest son of William MackGehee, Jr. and married to Joseph's daughter Ann). From Sampson Co., NC Deed Bk. 3, p. 378, "on 19 Oct. 1772, Thomas Magee granted to Phillip Magee (his brother) land on Coheary which was part of a patent to William Magee, now deceased, which fell to Thomas by heirship."

The Anderson family below came from Virginia to Abbeville, SC, in May
of 1790. We think that descendants of this family later migrated to Franklin,
Madison and DeKalb Counties in Georgia. Later some of them moved to
Benton/Calhoun County in Alabama.

This family is documented on the Hodge mailing list. Go to that list and
search for Anderson.
