Mother: Hannah SMITH |
Yalobusha Co. MS - July 5, 1847 - appeared Mary Higginbotham,
resident of Lafayette Co., this state. She was present and
acted as one of the witnesses at the marriage of Edmond Rousey
and Elizabeth Hilley in Elbert Co. GA --William Higginbotham,
Esq. performed the ceremony. Know he married other couples
before and after this; herself amongst them -- to James
Higginbotham, his nephew. To the best of her recollection the
marriage of Elizabeth Hilley to Edmond Rousey took place in July
or August 1793. Mary and James Higginbotham were married in
January 1797.
July 5, 1847 -- Appeared Benjamin Higginbotham, resident of
Lafayette County, this state. He lived within one mile of the
place where Elizabeth Hilley and Edmond Rousey were married,
Elbert Co. GA. He refers to his brother's widow, who was well
acquainted with them. He is now 63 years old and was 9 or 10
when the Rouseys were married.
Analysis by Earl & Nena: Since Jacob's brother William was in
Amherst Co. VA at the time the marriages took place, the only
other William who could have been an uncle to James Higginbotham
was the brother of his mother Anne Higginbotham.
(William, son of Benj. & Elizabeth Graves.)"
