"Antoni Sadowski was born about 1669 in Poland, and died April 22, 1736 in the vicinity of Douglasville, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Bird about 1705, daughter of Andrew Bird and Mary ?. Mr. Edward Pinkowski in cooperation with other researchers of Antoni has prepared an excellent report on the life of Antoni Sadowski at Anthony Sadowski - Polish Pioneer

Antoni Sadowski's will
Mary Bird Sadowski Palmer's will

Children of Antoni Sadowski and Mary Bird are:
i. Sophia Sadowski. She married (1st) Isaac Johnson and (2nd) William Darling.
ii. Britjert Sadowski, born August 01, 1704.
iii. Andrew Sadowski, born Abt. 1705 in Freehold, New Jersey; died 1768 in Moorefield, Virginia.
iv. Justine Sadowski, born Abt. 1706; died 1731 in Pennsylvania. She married James Warren.
v. Ann Sadowski, born 1707. She married Increase Miller.
vi. Jacob Sadowski, born Abt. 1700; died 1731-1735 in Pennsylvania."

"Antoni attended a classical school and is known to have spoken seven languages. He worked in governmental service. In 1700 Sweden invaded the area of Riga which was then Polish territory and Antoni and his brother left home to participate in the battles. In the spring of 1700 Antoni was captured and his brother killed in an attack. He survived toture during interrogation and later escaped from his prison ship into Riga Harbor. He escaped to Scotland where he tutored and shortly thereafter made his way across the Atlantic to Freehold, NJ. Around 1704 he married Mary Bordt the daughter of Andrew Bordt and Mary of Long Island, NY In 1712 Antoni moved to Pa where he purchased for 30 pounds, 400 acres of land along the Schuylkill River 50 NW of Phila. In 1716 he built a stone house and was involved in the organization of Amity Twp, in Berks Co. Antoni learned the Delaware and Iroquois Indian Languages and served as an interpreter and representative of the colonial government to the Indians. He was actively involved in the Indian fur trade and there are claims that he was responsible for the name now used by Sandusky, Oh Antoni Sadowski died on April 22, 1736 and he was buried in the graveyard of St. Gabriels Church just a mile from his home. His estate inventory was made by George Boone, grandfather of Daniel Boone." (From Vicki Rush) [email protected]
