wrote on genforum: parents of William Cockfield who married
Janet Hamilton were William Cockfield, who was born in 1755 in
Williamsburgh District, South Carolina. The name of his wife
remains unknown. William, born in 1755, was a son of John
Cockfield II and Ann Barton. I do not have documented proof
that William Cockfield that married Janet Hamilton is the son of
William Cockfield who was born in 1755. I only have the
genealogy that another person shared with me.

Lewis FLUKE (Ludwig FLUCK) has been listed as a pre-Revolution
settler of Bedford Co. This may be so; however, he was probably
a militiaman in Bucks Co. in Aug. or Oct.,1775. He evidently
left Bucks Co. sometime after that period and entered Bedfrod
Co., where he was on hand in the spring or early summer of 1778
to help with the contruction of Shoup's Fort. Then, when the
Indian troubles came to a climax in the area in 1780, he
undoubtedbly left with the others - if he had not already left
two years previously. He probably returned to Bucks Co., and
because he was not(?) enumerated there in the Federal Census of
1790, he had probably gone back to Bedfrod Co. in the meantime.
Chapter 48 of the series of articles by D.I. FOSTER printed in
the Saxton Independent during 1881-1882 states in part: "In the
years '88, '89, and '90, the country was rapidly filling up....
At this time Casper and Lewis Fluke cam (ed: Casper was
enumerated in 1790 from Bucks Co. so he probably left there
later in the year or in 1791), and Lewis built that large white
house on the farm that is now known as the Fisher farm (which
was bought by Robert Hare Powel several years ago) and kept the
first hotel or regular stopping place for the public and in it
was whiskey sold first in this valley - and the same Lewis Fluke
is the one mentioned some time ago that died such a horrible
death from hernia." In "Tavern Licences and Locations - 1791"
the following excerpt is found: "Lewis Fluck. Where he dwells on
the Great Road from Bedford to Huntingdon through Woodcock
Valley and the house formerly occupied by Mr. Felix Miller.
Petition signers - Richard Clark, Robert and Geo. Elder, Thos.
Wilson and Wm Smart"."
