Dr. Josiah McKewn was Captain of the Wassamassaw Cavalry serving
in Virginia. The people of the community petitioned for Dr.
McKewn to be sent home because of so much sickness. First Lt.
T. H. Winter replaced Dr. McKewn and served two years as
captain.
Vernon Winter, son of Carlton Winter, a great grandson of Thomas
Henry Winter has this sword in his possession.
