"Milton was a Union Veteran of the Civil War, Missouri Militia Home Guard, Osage County, 8th Regiment, Captain Charles D. Martin Commander. Milton enlisted on 22 June 1861, mustered out 20 December 1861, enlisted again at Lebanon, Missouri 26 October 1863 in M.S.M. Calvesry 8th regiment, Captain Jacob Casseints commanding. Consolidated county Militia. He was honorably discharged 17 July 1865 but was bushwacked and hung by ex-confederates shortly after the war."
