From: [email protected] Date: Wed, 4 Dec 2002
To: [email protected]: "The lines down from Sir Robert Wingfield (d. 1431) that you asked about, are in MUNIMENTS OF THE ANCIENT SAXON FAMILY OF WINGFIELD, by Mervyn Edward Wingield, 7th Viscount Powerscourt (Ireland), who did not do the compilation himself, and was not simply a "memorialist" as injudiciously charged recently here online. He commissioned an experienced genealogist, Miss St. John Neville in 1880, who began the work. She died, and the manuscripts were then submitted to the Rev. Harry Lancelot Wingfield, Rector of Market Overton, Oakham, and his sister, Harriet Emily Grace Wingfield, both of the Tickencote branch, who amplified and revised the records. Grace lived near Tickencote, and was familiar with the family's history. After that, the manuscript was presented to the College of Arms of England (Mr. Henry Farnham Burke, Somerset Herald) for final study and approval. It was 14 years in preparation. Not 100% accurate, but neither are several of us!"
