My last will and Testament Amen. My will and wish is that my
property may all remain together...my wife Janes widowhood
except as hereafter designated.
I ...gave to my daughter Anna that is married what I .. in the
first division which she is to keep.
I give unto my eldest son Benjamin one quarter section of
land..as being purchased of Wm. Evens joins the section five and
lying south of sd section -
I give to my daughter Eliza a negro girl by the name of Juritter
and horse saddle and bridle worth one hundred dollars bed and
furniture -
I give to son Nathan sixteen hundred dollars in three annual
payments out of the proceeds of the farm the first to be the
first of January 1840 -
I give to my son S. Crawford sixteen hundred dollars in three
equal annual payments out of the proceeds of the farm the first
to be paid the first of January 1842 also the last two named
sons to have a horse apiece that is now claimed by them.
I give to my daughter Polly a negro girl by the name of Luaner
also a horse saddle and bridle to worth one hundred dollars
together with bed and furniature.
I give to my daughter Caroline a negro girl by the name of Letta
a horse saddle and bridle worth one hundred dollars and a bed
and furniture.
My will and wish is further for my six younger daughters (viz)
Minurvy, Sarah, Simanthey, Loducsky, Amanda and Jane have the
same as has been named to the older ones a negro twelve or
fourteen years old Each of them with Horse Saddle and bridle
worth one hundred dollars bed and furniature.
If my wife Jane should marry I wish her to have a childs part
one equal share with the children in part of which I assign her
the carriage and two Horses the House and furniature hterein
with one bed and furniature all of which to be valued and what
it may lack to be paid in money the negroes reserved for my
children and further division to take place only as has been
named till the youngest child fifteen years of age in case of
...med of my wife's marrying - the dower of Land . is the land
whereon the House stands all South of the road Known as the
Centreville road running ..my Plantation imbracing the section I
now live on tending from the House East to a branch which heads
to the S.E. Corner of the plantation on the left & down branch
to the line -
In case of my wife Jane not marrying I wish all to remain
together only as has been before..till my youngest child is
fifteen years of age and then an equal division betwixt my wife
and child ..a childs part my children then all sons and
daughters to share equal in the division observing that my wife
Jane have a negro man named or called Dave and his wife Patsy
two horses and other stock of hogs and cattle sufficient to do
her plentifully and if it should ..more to make her up a childs
part it to be assigned her but if what has been named be too
much She ..have it- in addition to which I here bind all my
children that share in the division to see to the well doing of
wife if it at anytime through misfortune or otherwise she become
Imbarrist Circumstances Each is bound to refund a sufficiency to
keep in independant circumstances-
I now here appoint my two youngest sons Nathan and S. Crawford
Executors of this my last will and Testament also to manage the
Entire concern of the plantation and negroes if at any time
there be a surplus of money to be laid out for negroes or land
as to them my seem most to benefit of the family or anything
else as may be needing -
I wish them my last two named sons to have and to cultivate
until they get the money that I have assigned them -My will and
wish is further that whatever property my wife Jane may name at
her death be equally divided amongst my children. I now assign
my name to this my last will this 5th day of August 1838.
