Family Puzzlers, 3 Feb 1977 No. 485 states a Bible record owned
by Mrs. Mary Blackwell, was that of John Taylor (1696-1780),
copied by the late Mrs. Ruth McCloy Willis. No date or
publication or version was given. Whereabouts of the Bible is
now unknown.
The transcription has been submitted by Mrs. J. H. Stroud, Box
432, McGehee, AR 71654. A copy has been transmitted by General
Henry Lee Chapter NSDAR, to the NSDAR Library, Washington, D.C.
Bishop Meade's comments were taken from Vol. 2 "Old Churches,
Ministers and Families of Virginia.
According to Mrs. Willis, The Taylor, Pendleton and Gaines
families were among the first to settle in Chicot, Drew and
Desha Counties. Many descendants of thes families and of W. S.
McCloy and his wife Ida Manees are living in Monticello, Dermott
and McGehee, AR. The McCloys came to Drew Co. in 1857.

The will of John Taylor, father of Mary (Taylor) Penn, written
in Granville Co., NC in 1787, mentions "I give and bequeath to
the children of my daughter, Mary Penn, deceased, ie., John,
Phillip, Moses, Thomas, Catherine and Mary ....". Will filed in
Granville Co. NC, Will Book 1, p. 275.
"History of Caroline County, Virginia" by Wingfield, John Penn's
father died when he was 18 years old. He was his own guardian,
but later became a member of the family of his uncle, Edmund
Pendleton. He studied law under his uncle in Bowling Green,
Caroline County, Virginia.
John Taylor was orphaned at 10 years of age and was adopted by
his maternal uncle, Edmund Pendleton. His uncle tutored him in
his home. He later graduated from the College of William and
Mary in 1770 then studied law in the office of William
Pendleton."
"Frances Anderson married Joseph Taylor, later owner of the
Taylor Ferry. The Taylor family was descended from James Taylor
( -1698) from Carlisle, England. James had four daughters, a son
Edmund Taylor, a son James Taylor (and Martha Thompson) and a
son John Taylor who married Catherine Pendleton. John Taylor had
sons Edmund, William and Joseph (et al). Edmund Taylor married
Ann Lewis the daughter of Charles Lewis of "The Byrd" a member
of the "Warner Hall" Lewis'.
John Taylor's family bible survived until 1870 in Texas. From
this we know that William Taylor married an Elizabeth Anderson,
apparently the deceased sister of Frances as William Taylor is
named as a son-in-law in her father's will."
