Notes

"Sarah was his housekeeper after he built the cabin by river later moved and started a new homestead which Sarah and Stephen inherited. Stephen was born without the benefit of wedlock. When Peter thought he would die he married Sarah and made out a will which took care of them both .It is understood that the girls in Tabitha's family were livid. Peter's son Peter was guardian of Stephen untill the lawyers took over and took control of the inheritance. A court case continued on for 10 years. A very interesting document on that family." Notes

Kentucky Marriages to 1850: Spouse: Clay, Anne B. + Erwin, James Marriage Date: 21 Oct 1823.

"James and Ann resided at "Woodlands," adjoining the Ashland plantation of Senator Clay. James later removed to New Orleans, Orleans Parish LA, and then returned to Lexington, Fayette Co. KY where he died. It will be seen that his son James had also removed to New Orleans, from which it may be concluded that the father lived with his son until the younger man's untimely death.

The marriage announcement, printed in the Kentucky Observer, stated that James was from Alabama. We might infer that he had briefly struck out onhis own before returning to his native state."
