His sons James, Johnathan, William, Charles, and Reuben are also
listed in the DAR Index.
Bishop Meade says that George Taylor had fourteen sons of whom
seven served in the Revolutionary War and thirteen held office
under the Government at the same time. Mr. Stannard says that
Col. George Taylor was Burgess for Orange Co. 1748-1758; mem.
Orange Co. Committee, 1774, and the VA Conv. 1775. (The Virginia
Magazine)
Some of his descendants are still in Orange Co, VA and members
of the Episcopal Church.
When Samuel James d in 1755, Mildred qualified as executrix of
her husband's will, with William Taliaferro her security, in the
sum of one hundred dollars. Mildred James, along with Col.
George Taylor, Erasmus Taylor, Sarah Slaughter and Betty
Slaughter, stood as sureties at the christening of Nicholas
Taliaferro, born 30 Oct 1757. Nicholas was the son of William
Taliaferro and Mary Battaile and the grandson of John Taliaferro
and Mary Catlett. Mildred named her eldest son, Catlett James,
and the name Catlett continued to be passed down in the James
family.
The above info was found in the book, PIONEER FAMILIES OF
FRANKLIN COUNTY-by WINGFIELD.
Has visited an early George Taylor home in Orange Co. VA, plus
two other extant Taylor homes. Several volumes of a
post-Revolution diary of George's bachelor son Francis, are in
the Richmond Archives. Her brother owns the desk of Cmdr
Richard and a sterling tankard of Francis.
Col. George Taylor, of Orange, lived about two miles east of
Orange C.H. (Court House), which the house is still standing.
