From Striblings of Walnut Hill And Related Families, by Bruce
Stribling Hodgson:
"The legends and traditions as to the origin of the Taliaferro
family name are among the most ancient and interestrin of those
of the early emigrants to America. Genealogists seem to agree
that the name is of European origin but just here is still a
matter of conjecture. One legend has a distinctive Italian
background while another is associated with English history...
"Like the names of many other early colonial families, the name
Taliaferro was, and still is, spelled a number of ways...papers
belonging to Robert, the first name in America, has the name
spelled both as Taliaferro and Toliver. In this country the name
is most often spelled Taliaferro and pronounced
Toliver".[john_luddy_burke.ged]
