"Fleming - Where were my Flemings before 1777 when David Fleming
first appears in the deed records of Pitt County, North
Carolina? That remains a mystery ... for now. Some of David’s
descendants remained behind and some - including my branch -
emigrated to Georgia. David Green Fleming, my great-great
grandfather, served as Ordinance Sergeant for Company G, 8th
Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry of the Army of Northern
Virginia (“The Pulaski Volunteers”) and upon his return was
elected Treasurer for Pulaski County, Georgia. His son, James
Thomas Fleming, served as Clerk of the Dougherty County
Commission for almost 30 years."
