"Frederick County, Virginia, Will Book 1, Page 387 - In the name of God Amen, I John Lehew of Frederick County in the Colony of Virginia. I being in my perfect mind and memory do make constitute and allow this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First, I bequeath my soul to God that gave it and as to my lands and all my worldly goods I give and demise and dispose of as followeth: after my just debts and funeral expenses is paid to my brother Spencer Lehew’s son John Lehew my land whereon George Check now lives, the still and mill and all the appurtenances thereon and my Negro fellow Will and Negro Moll and 11 heads of cattle now in my possession and a feather bed and 15 heads of hogs and to my Brother William Lehew’s son William Lehew I bequeath one hundred pounds current money of Virginia to be paid to him at the age of 21 to be paid by my brother Spencer Lehew for John Lehew out of my Estate as Witness my hand this 26th January 1777. Signed John Lehew. Witnesses: William Jennings & Spencer Lehew. At a court held for Frederick County the 2nd day of June 1778. This will proved by the oaths of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Spencer Lehew certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of Administration on with the will annexed of the said Estate he having made oath according to law & with security entered into & acknowledged bond conditioned as the law directs."
