ID Number: I24238

  • OCCUPATION: Farmer

  • DEATH: AFT 1900
  • RESOURCES: See: [S515]
Father: Pendleton Franklin SANDIDGE
Mother: Frances Caroline (Susan) OLIVER

Family 1 : Emma

Notes

In John R.'s case, he continued to use the spelling "Sandridge" at least through 2 June 1900.

ED 68, page 1,1900 U.S. Federal Census for Beat # 3, Livingston, Madison County, Mississippi, dated 2 June 1900.

Sandridge, John R., age 37, born June 1862, in Mississippi of father and mother born in Tennessee. He was a farmer who had been married 15 years and had the following family:
Sandridge, Emma (wife), age 34, born Dec 1865, in Mississippi of father born in Tenn and mother born in Mississippi. She had 4 children - all of whom were living.

Sandridge, Maggie L. (dau), age 14, born Sept 1885, in Mississippi of parents born in Mississippi. She attended school.
Sandridge, Lottie K. (dau), age 12, born Feb 1888, in Mississippi of parents born in Mississippi. She attended school.
Sandridge, Hue L. (son), age 10, born June 1889, in Mississippi of parents born in Mississippi. He attended school.
Sandridge, Johny R. (son), age 9, born May 1891, in Mississippi of parents born in Mississippi. He attended school.

They do not appear anywhere in MS on the 1910 census.

initial information regarding the family came from two pages in my ggrandmother Sandidges (Mary Emma Smith Sandidge) Bible. The pages were registered in Franklin County, TN in 1944. They contain a lot of information regarding her family, the Smith's, as well as the birth information on John R's children of which my grandfather was the youngest. I also know that Mary Emma was alive in the mid 1920's as my father's baby book lists gifts she gave him for various birthdays. The family must have moved back to TN at some point, because my grandfather enlisted in the Navy for WWI in Nashville, and he and my grandmother were married in Memphis. They moved to Norfolk, VA about 1925, and lived there until their deaths. Granddad was a barber and my grandmother was a hairdresser. One of grandad's brothers, Hugh Lawson Sandidge, was an opera singer (tenor) in Memphis, and was written about several times in the Memphis paper of the day.
