William H. Alvis was wounded in action at the Battle of Monroe's Cross Roads, NC on Mar 10, 1865. He mustered out of service at Louisville, KY on May 2, 1865. His physical description was fair complexion, dark hair and 6ft 2 inches tall. Henry and William Alvis both served in the Civil War-Union. There are conflicting records in the 1850 census and Monroe Co. KY cemetery records, the census lists the wife of Wm. Alvis as being a Nancy. The cemetery record says that William Alvis wife's name was Sarah, and there is a Nancy Alvis buried in the old cemetery - I guess the last one buried there was about 1890.
