KENNEDY, Anthony, (brother of John Pendleton Kennedy), a Senator from Maryland; born in Baltimore, Md., December 21, 1810; was sent by his parents to Charles Town, Va. (now West Virginia), in 1821, where he attended the Jefferson Academy; studied law and also engaged in agricultural pursuits; member, Virginia house of delegates 1839-1843; magistrate on the bench of the Jefferson County Court in Virginia for ten years; unsuccessful Whig candidate for election in 1844 to the Twenty-ninth Congress; declined the offer of President Millard Fillmore as consul to Havana, Cuba, in 1850; returned to Baltimore, Md., in 1851; member, Maryland house of delegates 1856; elected by the American Party to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1857, to March 3, 1863; delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1867; retired from active political life and resided on his farm near Ellicott City, Howard County, Md.; died in Annapolis, Md., July 31, 1892; interment in Greenmount Cemetery, Baltimore, Md.

"William Strother, the first of Virginia, is said to have married Dorothy, dau. of his neighbor, Capt. Anthony Savage, but there seems to be no proof. Old Rappahannock Co. was divided into Richmond and Essex in 1692, and William Strother made his will in Richmond Co, "sick and weak" Oct. 2, 1700, probated Nov. 4, 1702. He bequeathed his eldest son William Strother, 150 acres of land including plantation I live upon--except that while my wife Dorothy shall live she shall peacefully and quietly possess one half of said plantation, with housing, etc. upon her death same is to return to son William, to son James 150 acres next to William, the remainder of my land to be divided between sons Robert and Benjamin; son Joseph to be put to school and to be free at his own disposing at age of 16; to grand son Will Strother 2,100 lbs. tbco. to be sent to England and proceeds paid him at age of 10. All rest of my personal estate to my loving wife Dorothy, during time of her widowhood, but if she shall marry, said personal estate is to be equally divided between her and my sons James, Jeremiah, Robert, Benjamin, land Joseph."


"William Strother (born 1630 - died 1702), married Dorothy Savage (1651), daughter of Captain Anthony Savage and his wife, Alice Stafford. About this time (1650 or 1651), William Strother emigrated to Virginia and settled near Richmond."
