FAMILY OF NANCY THOMAS AND JAMES GALLAHER
|
NANCY
THOMAS
was
born October 14, 1840 in Akron, Ohio, and died June 02, 1934 in Quincy, Adams
County, Illinois. She is buried in the
Sunset Cemetery, Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. She married JAMES
GALLAHER.
He died October 17, 1909. William Thomas's
daughter Nancy was born 14 Oct 1840 at Akron, Ohio (according to her death
certificate) and died 2 Jun 1934 at Quincy, Adams, Illinois.
Here is an obituary as taken from the June 2, 1934 issue of the Quincy
Herald-Whig: Mrs. Nancy Gollaher
died in her home, 313 Maiden Lane, Saturday morning at 2:10.
She was born in Akron, Ohio, October 14, 1840, and had lived in Quincy
since 1910. Her husband died
several years ago. Surviving are three
sons, Sam and O. A. Gollaher, Quincy, and C. H. Gollaher of Montevista, Colo.;
three daughters, Mrs. Martha Stombaugh, Hannibal, and Mrs. Lena Cooper and Mrs.
Mary Willis, Quincy; thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren;
Mrs. Gollaher was a member of the Methodist church in Missouri.
The informant on her
death certificate was B. H. Gollaher of Montevista, Colo.
Her parents were listed as Bill Thomas and Mary Cold. Nancy was married to
James Gollaher (Gallaher). He died
17 Oct 1909 and both are buried at Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home
in Quincy. Her date of birth does
not match with her age in the 1850 and 1860 censuses. FROM THOMAS
RESEARCHER, LYLE THOMAS: Nancy
Thomas and James Gallaher, the children spelled their last name Gollaher. She
also says that James and Nancy were married in 1858. Well Nancy, is in the
William Thomas house hold in the 1860 census. I have Nancy and James on the 1870
census in Mckee Twp. Their oldest boy, Samuel is five years old. I have most of
the Gallaher's on census records in Adams County, Illinois from 1850 - 1920. I think all
of them came from TN. They say Samuel and James Gallaher were brothers but I
have never seen them together on a census record. If not brothers they were at
least cousins. But I'm not going to dwell on that. James Gallaher was born 1838
in Monroe County, Tennessee and died 17 Oct. 1909 in Illinois Soldiers & Sailor Home,
Quincy, Illinois. |
