INFORMATION OF THE LINE OF WILLIAM GREEN SWEATT AND SERENA R. WILLIAMS FROM FAMILY GROUP SHEET IN THE POSSESSION OF ANITA ADLER (SHE MAY HAVE RECEIVED IT FROM A MRS. R.W. FERGUSON - DESCENDANT OF RUSSELL BEAN WILLIAMS AND SERENA ESTES.

They are listed on the 1880 Texas census living in 2nd Justice Pct. of Eastland County in household 222 and next door to Young Lafayette Williams and his wife, Margaret Bell Hutchison. Serena is listed as being 40 at the time and there are no children given as living with them. Thomas' occupation at the time is given as freighter.

Thomas may have also served in Company C, 18th Texas (Darnell's) Cavalry & as Chaplain of that regiment which served under Confederate General Hiram Bronson Granbury during the Civil War.

Col. Woodlief's son, Thomas Jerome Woodlief married Rene Estes. The book BOYS IN GRAY covered his extensive participation in the War Between the States. He was in Granbury's Brigade, Churchills Division. Thomas was captured by the Union troops then exchanged and returned to the war. Afterwards, he and Rene Estes Woodlief lived in Travis County. He spent several years in the Confederate Home in Austin, and is buried in the State Cemetery. He died Nov. 1, 1918.

Febuary the 20 day the year 1862

Dear Bruther, i take the opportunity of droping you a few lines to let you know how i am getting along very bad Thursa dide the 13 of febuary and left me with four litle children to name thair names is Elisha and narsissus Jane and Edward and Aron Elisha (illegible)a ? at aunt Nancy and ? Ed is at Hutchison alone. i don't now (know) what I will do yet some of the connection wants some of the children and some wants some of them Peggy took the babe to raise and give hit to aunt nancy you now i don't like that much but hit cant be hope now of i dont want to take the children out the connection but if i cant get none of them to keep puss and Ed to get ? i will take to ? i know i can keep them together but i dont want to take them thair if i can help hit you now i dont want my children scatered everwhere i wood like if i could see you i want you to come home as soon as you can so no more at present remains yours friend untill deth rite write as soon as you can to mee i wood have rote more to you but i didn't have time to so fare you well dear bruther.

Per Anita Adler, descendants of the Packwoods ended up in Altus, Oklahoma where they used to have an annual reunion.

CONFEDERATE SERVICE RECORD OF TRAVIS C. PACKWOOD

Served in Company B, 10th Texas Infantry-Nelson's Regiment, Texas Infantry-Private. He appears on a company muster roll of the above organization for Feb. 28-June 30, 1862. He enrolled April 25, 1862 at M Eealm? by Capt. Jones for the period of the war. He was last paid by whom - he received no pay at this point. Comment: Died May 19, 1862 of disease. Signed: J. Nelson. His name also appears on a register containing a record of the property of deceased Confederate Soldiers dated October 7, 1862 - under died is given the date Apl 25, 1862. Remark - Confed. Arch., Chap. 1, File No. 27, page 305. Signed L.E. Fehe?

"Born about 1842 in Missouri; died about 1862? in Hill County; married Francis Packwood, born about 1839 in Texas; lived in Hill County in 1860 with three children:

1. Elisha Packwood (born about 1858)

2. Narcissa J. Packwood (born about 1858

3. Edward B. Packwood (born May 15, 1861; died January

23, 1918, buried in the Pioneer Cemetary, Eastland

County, Texas).

The 2 youngest children were also enumerated in the household of Edward B. and Edithia Estes. Edward B. Packwood married February 17, 1881, in Eastland County to Mrs. Cinderella Estes.

In Eastland County 1880, living next to Edward B. Estes, was widow Cinderella Estes (age 28), born in Texas; her 3 children Cintha H. (age 5), Nathaniel B. (age 4), and Althia A. (age 1); and a stepdaughter Bettie Estes (age 24) who was only 4 years younger than Cinderella and was of the same age as Martha E. , daughter of George H. and Cynthia (Langson) Estes. In Eastland County June 23, 1880, Silas C. Scarbrough married Miss M.E. Estes. And Cinderella E. Estes married Edward B. Packwood. In the Pioneer Cemetary is buried Cinderella E., wife of E.B. Packwood, born 1852 and died 1926.

In Hill County 1870 Solomon and Mary Hollman are on census (had married in June of the census year); in their household were 3 Estes children:

1. Mary J. Estes (born about 1857 in Arkansas)

2. John (born about 1862 in Missouri)

3. Julia E. (born about 1864 in Texas)
