    He removed to Utica, NY, in 1864, and resided there to the time of his death. He became on of the leading business men of Utica, and one of the most successful cheese-buyers in Central New York. He was accustomed to spending his winters at his orange-grove in Florida. He was several times elected president of the Board of Trade of Utica, and no man was more popular among his business associates than "Jim" Brown. He was buried in Leonardsville, NY.

James married Rebecca RANDOLPH. Rebecca died in Utica, New York and was buried in Leonardsville, Madison Co., New York.
