THE BROWN GENEALOGY, Vol. II, 1915, by Cyrus Henry Brown, page 353.
Nicholas' Utter, the immigrant, was born about 1637. From 1630 to 1640 there was a large influx of people from England to New England, landing at Lynn, Salem, and Newbury, Mass. Doubtless the parents of Nicholas Utter were among these immigrants. Nicholas Utter was born about 1637. The precise time and place is not of record. There are traditions that the native country of the Utter family was Sweden; one, that they came from Holland; another claims the name should be Von Utter. But what is correct is not yet ascertained. It is found that he lived in Westerly, RI, and Stonington, Conn.
