(396) Barbara Coleman was born 2/1/1842, in what was then Bledsoe County, Tennessee, on Walden's Ridge, somewhere in the vicinity of the Lewis Chapel community and the Flat Top community. This area now lies in the extreme eastern section of Sequatchie County, on Walden's Ridge very near the Hamilton County line. Little is known of her childhood but she apparently remained on Walden's Ridge when her father and the rest of the family moved to Putnam County, TN.
She married Francis Marion Harvey sometime in the 1860's [in 1867 per Blalock, 2000]. Marion was born 3/22/1841 in Bledsoe County, Tennessee. He was the son of Jason and Priscilla Harvey, some of the early settlers of the Flat Top Mountain community, east of Soddy, TN, on Walden's Ridge. Marion was also the uncle of John C. Harvey, who married Millie Elizabeth McClure a niece of Barbara's.
Marion was a Civil War veteran in the Union army, and a survivor of the infamous Andersonville prison. It is not known whether he and Barbara married before or after the Civil War, but it was after the 1860 census, as both were shown still living with their parents when it was taken. There is evidence they married late in 1866 or early 1867, but I've been unable to find anything positive.
Barbara and Marion lived their lives out on Walden's Ridge in the Flat Top Mountain community just inside Sequatchie County. They farmed most of their lives. Before the turn of the century they separated and Marion fathered several children by Nancy Cranmore.
Barbara remained on Flat Top and lived with one of her daughters late in life.
Marion was the first to die. He passed away on 7/5/1929, on Flat Top Mountain at the age of 87. Barbara, described as a very short but fiesty woman even in old age lived until 11/25/1937, when she died at the age of 95 years, 8 months and 25 days. Both Barbara and Marion were buried in the Harvey Cemetery on Flat Top Mountain in Sequatchie County.
This family was not adamant about keeping records and they are not complete but a fair record of this branch of the family is known with the help of many of the descendants.

(766) Taylor Harvey was born around 1868 on Flat Top Mountain, TN. Taylor grew up on the mountain and married Mary Lou Rutledge who also was of a large family of early settlers of Walden's Ridge.
Taylor apparently spent a large part of his adult life away from Tennessee. He died and was buried in Wyoming. The date of his death is unknown.

(767) Phillip W. Harvey was born around 1870 on Flat Top Moutain, where he grew up, he married the sister of Taylor's wife. Her name was Frances Rutledge. They lived on the mountain for awhile and possibly in Chattanooga.
Phillip and Frances separated and Phillip married Second Debbie \??? . She was a native of Alabama and she and Phillip eventually settled around Montgomery, AL, where Phillip died and was buried. Phillip's first wife died 6/30/1936, in Chattanooga, never remarrying.

They lived on 14th Avenue in Chattanooga for many years, where Ernest was a pressman for Service Printing Company and PurseGroner Printing Company, from which he retired. Nannie died 12/14/1971, in Chattanooga and Ernest died 7/2/1975, in Chattanooga at the age of 84. Both were buried in the TN.-GA. Cemetery in Chattanooga. They had no children.
(778) Clarence Lee Harvey was born on Flat Top Mountain, lived in Chattanooga where he was a retired meat cutter. He had 9 children.
(779) Gertrude Harvey (Beene) was born on Flat Top Mountain. She married Melvin Beene and lived in Chattanooga. She died around 1970?. She had no children.
(780) Annie Harvey (Kirby), born on Flat Top Mountain she now resides in East Ridge, TN, with her husband Jessie Edward Kirby. They lived into retirement years and had no children.
(781) William Garrett Harvey was born around 1897 or 1898, on Flat Top Mountain, he lived in Middle Tennessee most of his adult life. He moved to Chattanooga after he retired. He married Dora Mae Unknown. He died on 1/27/1973, in Chattanooga, TN. Buried in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

(768) Charles Washington Harvey was named after his grandfather Coleman. Charlie was born on Flat Top Mountain 11/02/1871. He grew up on the mountain and married 1st Eliza Jane Rutledge on 06/06/1891, in Sequatchie County, TN. Eliza was the sister of Charlie's older brother's wives. It is unknown whether Charlie divorced his 1st wife or she died, but he then married Vertie Mae Ferguson. Vertie was born 08/02/1891. Vertie later passed away and Charlie then married Hester J. Snyder. Hester was born 08/10/1911.
Charlie lived on Flat Top Mountain most of his life. He did live in North Georgia for some years during the early 1900's, but returned to the mountain. He was mostly a farmer.
Charlie died 09/29/1965, at Dayton, TN, just a little more than a month before his 94th birthday. He was buried in the Harvey Cemetery on Flat Top Mountain.
Charlie amazingly fathered 23 children in his lifetime. Two died in infancy. Twenty-one lived to maturity, 1 by his 1st wife, 13 by his second wife and 7 by his 3rd wife.

(790) Margaret Virgie Harvey (Masters) (Britton), was born 8/30/1906. She married 1st Gus Masters. She married 2nd Ira Wade Britton of Rossville, GA. Virgie and Ira lived in Rossville most of their lives. Ira was a member of Painters Local 226 Union, retiring after 27 years of service.- Ira died 4/2/1978, in Chattanooga, TN. He was buried in Lakewood Memory Gardens. Virgie resided in Rossville as late the mid 1980s. She had 5 children.
(791) Charles Finley Harvey was born 10/20/1907. He was married and presently lives in the old homeplace on Flat Top Mountain. He and his wife had 8 children.

(770) Francis Marion "Son" Harvey, Jr. was born 1/11/1876 on Flat Top Mountain, he finally broke the habit of marrying into the Rutledge family by marrying Sally Vandergriff on 4/6/1906, in Sequatchie County, TN.
Son and Sally lived on the mountain until Son died on 3/30/1913, at the age of 36 years, 2 months and 19 days. There are conflicting stories of how he died. One is that he was struck by lightning, the other is that he died of a lung hemorrhage. In any case, he was buried in the Harvey Cemetery on Flat Top Mountain.

Tom was the son of John Douglas and Amanda Russell. She then married James Adams. Mary died around 1960 or 1961 at about 80 years of age.

(826) Lena Stewart (Sutherland) (Pellom) was born c1908. Lena first married Lee Sutherland and second married Leonard Pellom. She died 7/11/1978, in Chattanooga, TN. She was living in Cleveland, TN. at the time of her death. She had 1 son.

He was the first cousin of "Old Tom" Douglas, husband of Sarah's older sister Mary. Sarah and Tom were married on 9/25/1905, in Sequatchie County, TN.
Sarah and Tom likely lived in the Soddy/Flat Top Mountain area all of their lives.
Tom died 7/29/1955, just a few days before his 78th birthday. He was buried in the Harvey Cemetery on Flat Top Mountain. Sarah died 11/10/1959, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 5 days. She was also buried in the Harvey Cemetery.
