(401) Susan Coleman (Starnes) was born in 10/1852 in Bledsoe County, TN, on Walden's Ridge, where all her brothers and sisters were born. She was the youngest child of Wash and Lucinda Sims Coleman. She moved to Putnam County as a child with her family and grew up there.

on 08/10/1869 at age 17.

(401) Susan Coleman married Fred Starnes
1/14/1888 at age 36. Fred had three wives: Mary Exum, Elmira Garner, Susan Coleman.

12/16/1897 at age 45. They appear in the 1900 U.S. Census of Smith County, TN, 9th Dist.,
page 100B, household number 75. He is shown born Mar 1832, she Oct 1852.
He is shown as head of the house and a fisherman. She is shown as wife. Both
were shown born in Tennessee. His parents were shown as born in North Carolina, hers in TN.

"Susan Coleman Starnes had been married to Amon David Starnes, son of Fred's brother John Starnes. Amon David, as he goes by both at times, was killed in the civil war. There is paperwork stating Susan receiving his pension. When Susan was married to Fred Starnes he had a daughter Maggie that was by Elmira which Susan raised. Fred and Susan Starnes lived in DeKalb County, Tennessee near the Putnam County line at least for awhile. In the 1880 DeKalb county census she was found residing in the 15th District of DeKalb county with 5 children. Her husband was not shown living with her family in this census. I was unable to find Susan or her family in the 1900 Putnam or Dekalb County Census so it is not known what happened to them.

There is mention of a marriage between an Ida Belle Starnes and Harvey Hale.
They had a daughter Daisy Myrtle Hale who married James Andrew Franklin.

(1191) Robert Starnes was listed in the Social Security Index as born 06/05/1894 and died 05/1969 with one locality of Baxter, Putnam, TN.
There was a Willie Starnes listed in the Social Security Death Index as born 01/22/1888 and died June 1982 with localities of Arlington, Shelby Co, TN and Lakeland, Shaelby, TN.

Wife's name in 1900 is near illegible, but appears to be Anne. Wife in 1910 is Maude. In 1910, Josie's name does not appear, Zach's name is recorded as Zackie, Snodie appears to be Odie or Oire or Dire, Dorsie is listed as son, Dayton as son, and Johnie has not been born.
In 1920, J.R. is shown 44, and Snodie, age 20, is incorrectly listed as wife. Son's Dorsie B., Dayton, and Johnnie are listed, ages 16, 13, and (1 1/2?). Also listed are Zackie Starnes, age 20, head; and his wife Hester, age 17.
The Social Security Death Index gives these items:

The Starnes families descended from Susan Coleman Starnes reportedly moved to Texas, where they are found in the 1920 U.S. Census. A search of the Social Security Death Index for the state of Texas shows:
