Nubbins Progress - this is an autobiographical piece authored by Bryant Franklin Cobb, III for an English course at Abilene Christian College after he returned to school in the U.S. following a tour of duty with the army which took him to France for two years. He writes of a few boyhood experiences growing up and of the places he went in Europe while enlisted. He mentions his work for the army in surgery and the fact that, soon after being taught by teachers in France, he was teaching the teachers in the areas that they had taught him, but beyond what they had taught him.

You can search the message archives of Roots Web for certain family information. Examples:

  1. Search Cobb-L archives
  2. Search Stancil-L archives
  3. Search Edgecombe County, NC archives
Example of the type of facts one can glean here:
The initial members chartering the church of Little Conetoe Creek Baptist Church, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, signing the charter dated 7/28/1803 included Nathan and Elizabeth Stancil, John Stancil, Harriet Stancil, and John Cobb.
You can also search the State archives on the USGenWeb site at: USGenWeb - get past their tribute to those killed Sept 11, 2001 by clicking "Enter the USGenWeb Site". Then select the third option from the top in the right hand column. It is labeled "State Archives Search Engine". Pick a state and enter the key words separated by "and" or "or" and with parentheses as required.
For example, using "Stancil and Cobb" as the query (without the quotes) and choosing the state of North Carolina yielded 24 results on 10/15/01.
