The Neff Family Historical Society, Inc. of America has begun a Surname research project based upon and utilizing the latest Y-chromosome DNA testing technology. The Neff surname lines under study are those who immigrated from Switzerland and other European countries to North America from the early 1600's to the end of the 1700's.

The first phase of this project involves the identification of men whose descent from a Neff immigrant is very well documented, and the collection of their Y-chromosome DNA samples to establish our "Base Y-chromosome signatures."

Participants descended from 19th and 20th century immigrants lines, as well as those wishing to identify their family line to a Neff immigrant line are welcome to join at any time. Meaningful results, however, may depend upon the completion of the first phase of the project.

The planning for this project is still evolving.  The most up to date information on purpose, participation, and results, will be posted to our sites hosted by FamilyTreeDNA.com and WorldFamilies.net.

We are very excited about this project.  Other families with Swiss surnames already have DNA studies.  See Baughman and Longenecker, for example.

Eventually, as the project matures, we will bring all the data and links to a single Web site.

If you have further questions, or you wish to sign up, please contact the Neff Surname DNA Study Coordinator.  The testing fees are discounted for participants in surname studies.  Participants can get them by using this link: (Sign up by clicking here) or the one on our site at WorldFamilies.  Although the signup page is part of FamilyTreeDNA's site, it is not easy to get there from our project site there.
