William Davis

Was William related to our James P. Davis?  If so -- how exactly?  Or was he related to Bither?

Fran Kyker sent us the following info:  I want to ask you about something I found on the Land records of Mo, you may already have it, if so, what do you make of it. As follows.
William Davis

Acres: 40
Meridian or Watershed: 5th Prin Meridian
Parcel: Township 31, Range 24, Section 33
These are exactly alike, Is this brother and brother or father and son?

Generation No. 1

1. WILLIAM FRANKLIN DAVIS  was born 07 May 1808 in KY, and died 1892 in Christian Co., MO3. He married ELIZABETH HARP Bef. 1840, daughter of WILLIAM HARP and CHARLOTTE HARRISON.

In the History of Christian Co., MO, page 86, 1998; in an article submitted by Margie Davis Hilton Moore, it is stated that William's father was John Davis and that he had a brother named Ruben.

William and Elizabeth are both buried at the Spokane Cemetery, Christian Co., MO.  Bthire (mother of our Thomas W. Davis) is buried next to William in the Spokane Cem., MO. It is possible that William is her brother.

You are not going to believe this: My great grandpa Wash Davis was in the same regiments as Whelchel (husband of Salina)! Wash was in the 8th Missouri State Militia Cavalry Volunteers Company B and before that he was in the 14th, Company G. In fact there is a man who has a webpage for all those in the 14th. He'd LOVE to hear about you and Charles Whelchel. I'll give you his e-mail address, and he can tell you the URL his site. His name is Arthur Freeman and his e-mail address is [email protected]  His site has all kinds of neat stuff, and I've even submitted some interesting items. It's one of the coolest Civil War Regiment sites on the Internet.

Also, yes, I'm related to Elizabeth Harp; but not through my Dad's Davis line. My Mom's family had Harps that lived in Madison County, AR. They descend from a James Sampson Harp, who was related to Elizabeth's ancestors. I'm about a 5th or so cousin to Elizabeth. Her line is not my direct line, but there is a book called "Descendants of William and Charlottee Harrison Harp" by Edna Lowery that documents Elizabeth's line. William Harp was a son of James Sampson Harp and William was brother to my great x 4 grandpa Beverly Harp (a guy name d Beverly, and he was a Minister too!). Beverly's daughter Cherubia married Benjamin F. Vaughan.
