He was born April 30, 1822 in Davidson Co., TN, and died December 21, 1877 in Seguin, Guadalupe Co., TX.

-- FACT #1 -: He had not reached his eighth birthday when he arrived in Texas with his parents. At age seventeen, with his big brothers Andrew and John, he joined Matthew Caldwell' "Gonzales Rangers."

Fact #2 -: In March, 1845 it is said that Asa and Calvin S. Turner were hired by Prince Solms to guide the German settlers to their land on the Comal River, where later was founded the town of New Braunfels.

Fact #3 -: Asa served as district clerk in 1846 and as chief justice from 1870 to 1874 in Guadalupe County. He also was Justice of the Peace in Seguin, TX.

-- FACT #2 -: Milford Riley Nichols was a merchant in San Antonio, Texas and also a veteran of the Confederate army but because his store ran on mostly credit, his customers tended not to pay their bills, causing him to go broke.

-- FACT #2b -: In 1903 Milford Lee and May Retta moved to Clifton, Arizona. In 1905 Georgia Belle Nichols was born in Texas. The reason she was born in Texas was because her mother, May Retta, wanted to be with her mother when she gave birth. (Cont.)

-- FACT #2c -: ...Milford, May Retta, Georgia and the rest of the family soon moved to Coronado, Arizona where Milford was a deputy in a mining camp and a store owner.

-- FACT #2d -: In 1910 Milford received a job as a forest ranger at a station six miles from Metcalf. At that time there was nothing there and Milford road horseback to his job.

-- FACT #2e -: Through the Forest Service Milford was transferred to Nutrioso, Arizona, which was one hundred miles from the nearest railraod. While in Nutrioso, the family was sixteen miles from the closest store, which at that time, was an all-day trip.

-- FACT #3 -: In 1916 the family moved to Groom Creek, Arizona because of the Forest Service job. In 1917 they moved on to Prescott because the children were to go to school. The Nichols lived in Prescott until 1921 when Milford was transferred to Flagstaff, Arizona.

-- FACT #4 -: Milford Lee Nichols died of pneumonia.

-- FACT #1 -: She appears on the 1880 Guadalupe Co TX census in the household of her brother, Leroy Sowell.

-- FACT #2 -: In 1881, Lemuel Smithers went to the Spur ranch in Dickens County and worked there for sixteen years. Then he bought 2,600 acres and operated his own ranch in that part of Texas.

More About Lemuel Ganell (Lemmie) Smithers:

-- FACT #1 -: Lemmie attended Simmons University and later received her nurse's training at St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo. She graduated with the highest honors in her class and then was sent to Camp Travis near Austin as a Red Cross nurse at the time Spanish Flu.

-- FACT #1b -: She was sent to New York and was scheduled to go overseas when World War I ended on November 11, 1918. In New York she caught a cold which developed into pneumonia.

-- FACT #1c -: Lemmie came back to Amarillo and was a nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital where she met Dr. Brunow. She came to Pampa to live with him in the white frame house at 101 South Cuyler.

-- FACT #2 -: After being in failing health for some time, Lemmie became seriously ill in the summer of 1936 and died on August 5. Dr. Brunow was hospitalized because of an automobile accident and was unable to attend her funeral.
