Fred and Ada had a big house in Erith. These houses used to belong to the gentry, and because they were along the Thames, the shipping areas built up around them and the houses started to go to 'rack and ruin'.
Fred was able to rent it cheap and fix it up. Daughter Freda who came to Canada, didn't stay long but came back to England. Fred worked loading and unloading goods from ships on the cranes. Son Fred went to work for a big insurance company in London.

Note: Accident: Bomb Blast 9 Elms Railway Yard
E. Charles Burnell
The bomb blast at 9 Elms (the railway yard) where he was blown across the yard and hit the brick wall happened at night when he was doing firewarden duties. He was just stepping down from the highest building when it happened. He was unconscious for some time and they didn't think he would come out of it. She saw him on the train platform the next morning, as she was heading in and he was
getting home. He was really banged up and told her not to mention it to her mother, as she would worry. I guess he was still in shock, as Aunt Lil said there was no way her mother would miss that something had happened, as he was really messed up.
He developed cancer shortly afterwards and her family have always blamed the shock of being thrown across the railway yard as the reason for the cancer developed. (She still does) - Hazel.
