Nikki, thank you for your message. I'll give you what I have on my ancestors. I haven't done much work beyond about 1810 in Bristol, England where my great, great grandfather William Bevan Hamments was born. He was a linen draper and can be found in the list of tradesmen. On April 3, 1834, he married Eliza Lane, who was a milliner, in St. Paul's Church, Portland Square, Bristol . Both of them had shops in Redcliffe Hill, Bristol. They had three daughters born in Bristol: Louisa, Clarissa and Fannie (Frances.)
In 1845, the family immigrated to the United States. They settled in Marshall, Harrison County, Texas, where they planned to establish a dress making business. Before they could realize their dream, William Hamments became very ill and died in 1850. His wife Eliza was pregnant with a son who was named Howard Hamments. My father who would have been Howard Hamments great nephew was named after him. His name was James Howard McKiel whose mother was Lizzie Corbey, daughter of Clarissa Rebecca Hamments Corbey.
Clarissa's husband Thomas J. Corbey was born in England also. He was a lieutenant in the Civil War and was killed in action. In 1869, Clarissa married a J. F. Naenndell who was born in Prussia.
I have met a couple of other people through the internet who are Hamments descendants. I am a little pressed for time today, but will post those names one day next week.
I would love to hear the details of your Hamment connection!
