Flora was divorced at a time when ladies were not divorced; apparently Abrams deserted her, and she was able to resume her maiden name and place in society without opprobrium. Both children resumed the Niven surname with her. She lived with Malcolm, her brother, and was known as 'Auntie". She helped to bring up Mom, and was eventually replaced by Mom at the head of her brother's table, at least according to Mom's stories. Mom took precedence as the oldest daughter of the house. I think that Auntie and Betty lived with Mom later in White River.
The name of Flora's husband was a closely guarded family secret. I never knew it until I found the family Bible, where it had been entered.
