Elinor R. Keefer = University's head librarian retired in 1967

Elinor R. Keefer, 82, of 57 E. Main St., Bloomsburg, died at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan.5, 1994, at Sycamore Manor, Montoursville, where she had
lived for six years.
Born in Mount Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late William S. and
Mary E. Roseburg Keefer.
She attended Mount Lebanon public schools, and graduated from Dormont High
School in 1928. She was cum laude graduate of Muskingum College, New
Concord,
Ohio, in 1932 with a bachelor's degree. She earned her master's degree
in literature at Pitt College, Pittsburgh, and also graduated from the
Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, in 1950 with a degree in library
science.
Ms. Keefer had lived in Bloomsburg since 1950, retiring as head librarian
at Bloomsburg State College in 1967 after 17 years service. She also had
taught in the public schools of Allegheny County for 19 years.
Ms. Keefer was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg.
She also was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Friends of
the Bloomsburg Public Library, Columbia County Historical Society, and
the American Association of University women, Bloomsburg. She was homored
in 1987 by Muskingum College as an outstanding alumna.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene L. Keefer, and sister
Gertrude Griffin. Survivng are nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from Dean W. Kriner Inc, Funeral Home,
325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, the Rev. David C. Kingsley,
officiating. Burial will be Monday in Mount Lebanon Cemetery.
