Directions: Easy to find. May be accessed via a variety of ways. Simplest, from within Oakmont, would be to turn

heading uphill. Cemetery would be on your left between 10th & 12th Streets.

Obituaries:

Beals
Ruth Elizabeth Beals died March 24, 2003, at St. Luke's Lutheran Community in North Canton, Ohio. Born July 5, 1913, in Oakmont, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Schirm) Schmidt, she was a Duff's Business School graduate. Mrs. Beals was a former secretary at Gulf Research and Development Co. during World War II. Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Beers of Akron, Ohio, and her husband, Bill; grandson, Dr. Kenneth Beers of Boston; and sister, Margaret Schmidt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Beals; sister, Anne Fescemyer; and brothers, Fred, George, Harry, John and Charles Schmidt. A viewing will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Oakmont at 10 a.m. Saturday. A service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Oakmont Verona Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church.


Gasper
Viola Gasper, 97, of Oakmont died March 12, 2003, at The Willows of Presbyterian SeniorCare in Oakmont. Born in Oct. 4, 1905, in Krackow, Poland, she was the daughter of Yan and Josefa Ruszkiewicz. She was a member of St. Irenaeus Roman Catholic Church in Oakmont. She was a member of Christian Mothers and the former Oakmont Women's Club. Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Mastandrea of Springdale Township; four grandchildren, Jody Sparm-black, Timothy Gasper, Lynn and Mark Mastandrea; and a great-granddaughter. In addition to parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gasper; and a son, Robert Gasper. Friends were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home. Mass was at St. Irenaeus Church with the Rev. Paul Cwynar officiating. Interment was at Verona Cemetery.


Munroe
Marian W. Munroe, 82, of Churchill, formerly of Oakmont, died March 21, 2003. Born July 12, 1920, in Oakmont, she was the daughter of Edward and Bessie Mae (Leonard) Winkleman. She was a retired secretary. Mrs. Munroe was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was prceded in death by her husband, Donald Munroe; and a brother, Edward Winkleman. Surviving are her sister, Elizabeth Eaton of Oakmont; brother, William Winkleman of Oakmont; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Beulah Presbyterian Church. Private interment was at Verona Cemetery, Oakmont. Memorial contributions are suggested to Beulah Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were by Burket-Truby Funeral Home.


Soell
Irene E. Soell, 77, of Oakmont died May 24, 2003, at St. Margaret Seneca Place. Born Oct. 16, 1925, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Edward and Alice Blanche (Harrison) Smith. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Verona. She had previously cooked at Friendship Gardens restaurant and was a member of the Elks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George Soell; and son, Keith Soell. Surviving are her children, Jeffrey of Miami and Robin Soell of Oakmont, and Deborah Beard of Verona; sister, Helen Wilkinson; brother, Edward Smith; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home. Interment was at Verona Cemetery in Oakmont.

Zalar
Joseph W. Zalar, 69, of Oakmont died March 5, 2003, at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital. Born April 25, 1933, in Onnalinda, Pa., he was the son of John and Rose (Turk) Zalar. Mr. Zalar was retired from the rolling mill at the former Edgewater Steel Co. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a 25-year member of Oakmont fire department. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Dolores Zalar; stepchildren, Larry and Sherry McNeil; sister, Frances Litchenstein; and two grandchildren, Jake and Mindy McNeil. Friends were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home. Interment was at Verona Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer and Lung Association.
