7. In Teunis G. Bergen's Genealogy of the Lefferts Family 1650-1878 (Albany:
Joel Munsell, 1878. p. 104-106), the parents of Teunis Vanderveer are
given as Dominicus Vanderveer and Maria Margaret Nordtlyke. If the Dutch
system of naming children was used to name the children of Teunis, it
would be expected that one son would be named Dominicus and one daughter
(if they had at least two) would be named Maria. But Teunis did not give
any of his children these names. Instead we find the names John and
Phoebe where we would expect to see Dominicus and Maria leading to the
speculation that the parents of Teunis Vanderveer were really Jan
Corneliszen Vanderveer and Femmetje Bergen (Femmetje being Dutch for
Phoebe).
