Biography of GERALD RUDOLPH FORD, JR.

 
GERALD RUDOLPH FORD, was born Leslie Lynch King, Jr, on 14 July 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was adopted by his stepfather on 3 December 1935, who changed his name to Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr. He was educated at South High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and received his AB in 1935 from Michigan University. He received his LLB from Yale Law School in 1941. On 15 October 1948 at Grace Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan he married as her second husband Elizabeth Ann Bloomer, the divorced wife William G. Warren, who was born 8 April 1918 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of William Stephenson Bloomer and Hortense Nehr.
The professional career of Gerald Ford:

     1935-1941  Assistant Football Coach, Yale Athletics Department.
     1941       admitted to the Michigan Bar.
     1942-1943, Partner of Ford and Buchen, attorneys.
     1942-1946  Lieutenant Commander in the United States Naval Reserve in
		the Pacific.
     1945-1946  Vice-President of the Independent Veterans Association.
     1947-1949  associate with the law firm of Butterfield, Keeny & Amberg
		(subsequently with Ambert, Law & Buchen to 1953).
     1949-1973  Member of the United States House of Representatives from
		the Michigan 5th District.
     1949-1950  Member of the Public Works Committee
     1951-1965  Member of the Appropriations Committee
     1965-1973  Minority Leader of the Defense Sub-Committee.)
     1963       Chairman of the Republican Conference.
     1963-1964  Member of the Warren Commission investigating President
		Kennedy's assassination.
     1968       Chairman of the Republican National Convention
     1972       Chairman of the Republican National Convention.
     1973       from 6 December to 9 August 1974 Vice President of the United
		States.
     1974-1977  from 9 August 1974, 38th President of the United States; the
		first president not directly elected by the people.

Awards won by Gerald R. Ford:

American Political Science Association's Distinguished Congressional
Service Award, 1961.

Gerald R. Ford received the following Honorary Degrees:

Honorary LLD from Michigan State University, 1965
		  Albion College (Michigan), 1965
		  Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, Michigan), 1965
		  Spring Arbor College (Michigan), 1965
