Catholic missionary during the development of western
Canada was Father Albert Lacombe. He arrived in Edmonton
in 1852, learned the Cree language, then served the
mission at Lac St. Anne for eight years. In 1861 Father
Lacombe founded the settlement of St. Albert (then called
Big Lake) and helped teach agricultural practices to the
Métis."

(Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and the Seminole)
were forced to move from the southeast to west of the
Mississippi River.
