Anne CLOUTIER

Anne Cloutier, baptized on January 19, 1626, in Saint-Jean-de-Mortagne. She becomes the wife in 1637, old hardly 11 years, of the pioneer Robert Drouin, after having signed on July 27, 1636, the first News-France, marriage contract.

Anne: Exact while the dates of birth of Anne in France is in question (Jan 26 1626 according to the Cloutier factory volume III no.3). J. Roger Cloutier records in his book "History of the Cloutier", that she was baptized January 19 1626. Nevertheless the story of Anne is one the one hand historical and one the other tragic. Her father Zachary I wanting to future ensure the for his daughter arranged for her marriage to Robert Drouin. This was unusual for two let us reasons: First the marriage contract with Robert Drouin was the first of its kind in Canada, and second Anne was only ten and has half years old at the time.
Anne' s time of childhood and its awaiting freedoms and happiness was shorts lived. The marriage sacrament was drawn up one July 27th with the intention that the sacrament would not take place until has year later. The religious ceremony took place when Anne was eleven goal nonmarital Robert had to contend himself with visits for two more years. Robert Drouin was 28 years old at the time of marriage. The contract also stipulate that the couple must spend the first three years ofto their marriage in the home of Zacharie and Xainte. The first of Anne's six children was born when she was fifteen years old. Three of the six children died. Anne herself died at the age of 21 one the 4th of February 1648. Robert remarriedhas widow Marie Chapelier in 1649 and the couple had eight other children. Robert died June 1 1685 in Château-Richer.
