Hello Nancy,
My name is Tony DellaRocca, I am the Genealogist for the
14th NYSM Co.E Living History Association. Bury was a member of Co.D 14th NYSM
( 14th Brooklyn). He enlisted on August 26, 1862, at Brooklyn, ( he was
listed as 21 years old) to serve three years. He was transferred to Company I
5th New York Vets on June 2, 1864. Anyone that didn't finish their 3 year
enlistment when the 14th NYSM was mustered out was transferred to the 5th Vets
to
finish out their term. The 14th was one of the top regiments in the Army of
the Potomac, and served with great distinction throughout the CW. They were
involved in all major battles, including 1st+2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Gettysburg,

etc. As a matter of fact they are one of only 2 regiments in the Federal army
that were engaged on all three days of the battle, and they have 3 monuments
at the Battle Field today. You can check out more on Bury's regiment at
www.14thBrooklyn.net We are a non profit, educational organization, and our
sole
mission is to get all the information out on the 14th that we can.
I checked my records, and I found mention of Bury in the Brooklyn
Eagle, dated September 19, 1892. The article is about veterans going down to
Washington DC. Here is the mention of Bury for you. " Several survivors of the

old Fourteenth Brooklyn Regiment, including Mr. Bury J. O'Brien of the weather
office, are prepared to extend the hospitalities of the city to their brother
veterans of that famous regiment. The Fourteenth's boys are marked
everywhere, for they all wear the handsome bronze medal presented to them by the
city
of Brooklyn.
If I find anything else on Bury during my research I will send it
along to you!
Regards,
Tony
