Notes for George RUSSELL

Mike Finley (mikef@@ees.eesc.com)
George and Margaret Russell appear to have 4 children through marriage bonds in Caldwell Co., KY:
Alterson Russell
John Russell
Jeremiah Russell
Elizabeth Russell (m. Charles Allen, Trigg Co., KY)
We 'assume' at this time that Thomas R. Russell (m. Awry Jones, dau. of William & Dica Jones) and George Washington Russell (m. Winifred Wallis/Wallace) are children of George and Margaret. There is some indication also that Starling Russell (m. Mary Ann Jones, dau. of William & Dica Jones) may also be their child.
George Russell appears on Caldwell Co., KY 1810 & 1820 census. We think he died c.1825
We believe based on a Starling Russell bible record that Margaret Russell married Nicholas Pyle of Trigg Co., KY after George Russell died. Margaret Russell died c.1839, Nicholas Pyle shows on Trigg Co., KY 1840 census as a widow.
Elizabeth Russell Allen is consistent on all census stating that her father (George) was from VA, and mother (Margaret) was from SC.
There was a message posted about a marriage between George Russell and Margaret Metcaff in SC around the right time period, but I don't know if this is our George and Margaret.

Nancy,

Id just like to add to your Russell family tree. George Russell who was married to Margaret Russell (Pyle) had an additional son named Starling (my ggg grandfather) b. Jan 1, 1823 and d. May 15, 1897. He was married (Sept 16, 1846) to Mary Ann Jones b. Feb 9, 1823. They had 9 children (Lucinda, William Washington (my gg grandfather), Edna A, George Henry, Miles P, Starling Lee, Margaret E, Nancy E, and Richard T. I also have a copy of the information in Starlings bible that states G.W. Russell died July 28, 1861. Starlings daughter Edna is the same women who married Charles, George Washington Russell and Winifred Wallis son. If you would like more information on Starlings children and their descendants please just let me know. I also wanted to know if Margaret married Nicolas Pyle before or after George Russell. Ive been confused on the matter because she has been known as both Margaret Pyle (as in Starlings bible) and also as Margaret McGrew.

Thanks,

Dixie Finch

Hello Nancy,

Researching the Russell family has got to be one of the most confusing things I've done. There are enough Williams and Georges to keep you researching for years!! I've only spoken to a Larry Russell who is researching the family in Paducah (his grandfather was Charlie's son Jesse) and to a Pam Hodges whose grandfather was a son of Alexander.

I'm connected to the Russells through my grandmother Eliza Frances Russell (Lovell) who's father was Jesse Starling Russell, William Washington's son. I have solid proof of William Washington being Starlings son through census records and also have plenty of details from my grandmother. I wasn't sure about George being Starling's father until I spoke with Pam Hodges who confirmed it for me. I'm not sure where she got the information as I've only emailed her a few times. She was interested in a letter I have from a V. Blaine Russell who is her grandfathers brother. I can send you a copy of this letter if you would like as it contains information about the Russell family. The only other information I have of George being Starlings brother is the bible information as it says "To the memory of Brother G.W. Russell who departed this life July 28th 1861, and I know that George W did die at that date from the information I was given by Pam, and I know George Henry didn't die until 1927 (from the bible information). The fact that Sterling also states Margaret Pyle's death leads me to believe she was his mother. I've also just received a stack of information that my grandmother just remembered she had, so I am trying to sort through that information. It's from all different branches of the family so it's been very confusing fitting it all together. The bible pages I have are written out by an Ada who says she is the daughter of Miles Russell (Starlings son) so I assume the bible is somewhere in that line. She sent the information to a Mary Ellen Cobb who is a daughter of Starling Lee (also Starling's son). My grandmother was corresponding with a Martha Wilson who sent the information from Mary Ellen. Martha Wilson's grandfather was George Henry so I also have all the information about his descendants Starling Lee's, and Miles as they all married Sisk sisters. With this letter there are also copies of family picture (not very good) that show Lucinda and George Henry. I also have quite of few pictures of the Russell family.

My grandmother also corresponded with a Janice Richardson whose family was from the South Carolina Russells but she was wanting information about the Trigg Co Russells as she found a Starling Russell from her family in Lancaster Co, SC (previously from Montgomery Co, NC). I've been investigating that as I really am at a loss where to go next.

I noticed that you did have Starling and his children in a separate chart and if you would like I can send you the details I have of births, deaths, marriages, etc. Just let me know if you want any of the letters or information I have listed above and I'll send it to you. It's nice to know other people are also working on this line of Russells and I would be interested in talking to other researchers. Also how exactly are you connected in this web of confusion, it's just nice to know how everyone fit

Thanks, Dixie

V.Blaine Russell letters (*.gif format) sent by Dixie Finch, states we are related to General William Russell (Commander of the Russell Scouts) of the Revolutionary War, native of Virginia, Russellville, Logan Co., KY was named for. General William Russell's son, Hendly was one of the town's first trustees.

If the William W. Russell you are looking for was a General in the Revolutionary War then I may have some information of interest to you. I am the seventh generation descendant of Maj William Walker Russell of the British army who came to eastern North Carolina some time in the early 1700's. His son, also named William Walker, was a General in the American Army during the Revolutionary War.

If this could be the General Russell you are interested in E-mail me at WRuss20847@@aol.com
