Notes for Margaret FLEMEDY\KENNEDY
Notes from Pat Hammond's file:
Her surname may have been Flannidy or even Kennedy. A letter of Joe Carroll, a grandson says : "Margaret O'Brien left Limerick Ireland, taking with her two sons and three daughters. The two boys were Michael and Bury, and the three girls Sarah, Rosina and Georgina. On reaching America they lived in New York for some years. Eventually Margaret left America in the company of her three daughters to sail for Melbourne. Rosina married John Poppins and Sarah married Michael Morrissey before leaving America. Later my father, Roger Carroll met and married Georgina". argaret and her family are said to have sailed to New York on the "Shanon Row" . They came to Victoria, Australia in 1858. Little Fleet Street where she died was just east of Nichol son Street, opposite the Exhibition Buildings (Australia). Grave Location: RC G 238/9.

In talking to Margaret Anne O'Connor, the O'Brien girls left the US with their husbands because of the Civil War. Bury and Michael were inlisted in the Civil War and had good jobs as printers, so they stayed in the US.
Also, the Poppins and Morrissey's knew each other in the US, it's not clear if they knew each other or were inter-related in Ireland. The Morrissey's and Poppins were shop keepers.
