Maxwell Layton married Mary Oyler, dau of John Oyler and Ann Sayer of England who settled in Tippecanoe Co Indiana.
Sometime in the late 1860's John and Ann left Tippecanoe and settled in Southwest City, McDonald Co. Missouri.

With them was their daughter Mary, now whether Maxwell went with them or not I don't know unless he died on the way or after they got there. I haven't checked the burial records there to see if he's buried there.

However in 1870 Mary is a widow with three small children living next door to her parents. By 1871 she remarries and has a couple of more children and is again a widow by 1880.

Maxwell and Mary's son John Edward Layton was still living in McDonald county in 1900, but I haven't found him yet after that.

My father was adopted into the Oyler family and our lineage goes through Mary's brother John Edward Oyler.
