Holliday Has First Graduating Exercises - May 1923

On last Friday evening at 8 o'clock was held at the high school auditorium, the first graduation exercises in the history of the school. Our school has heretofore been classed as a three year high school but next year credits for a four year affiliation have been made and they will now have a full accredited school. Judge B.D. Sartiff (?) of Wichita Falls delivered the commencement address and was an inspiring, helpful and enthusiastic talk. Rev. S.M. Dunnam offered the opening prayer, followed by a piano solo by Mrs. T.B. Parrish. Presentation of diplomas was by Supt. A.F. Ligon. C.C. Miller awarded the scholorships given by different colleges to the honorary pupils, Jack McGaughey and Allene Clark Palmer.

After the addresses, the benediction was pronounced by Elder D.S. Ligon, father of Supt. A.F. Ligon.

Those graduating were as follows: Misses Laura Carter, Erma Lee Little, Allene Clark Palmer, and Jack McGaughey. The following teachers have been elected for the coming year: Supt. A.F. Ligon, Holliday; C.C. Miller, Coveington, principal; D.L. Ligon, Holliday, Spanish and athletics; G.L. Jones, Gilmer, mathematics.

The grade teachers are as follows: Miss Chloe Ramey, Denton, primary; Miss Gladys Johnson, Abilene, 2nd grade; Miss Annie Grounds, Wichita Falls, 5th grade; Miss Edna Windsor, Wichita Falls, 4th grade; Mrs. T.B. Parrish, music and expression.
