The Sunset Cemetery was organized in 1894 as the Sunset-Beasley Cemetery and later changed to just Sunset Cemetery. The Cemetery
directors in 1950 were: Mrs. Aniete Pace, Mrs. Bert Forville, Mrs. Mary Weaver, Mrs. Mary Crim and Mrs. Ollie Baldwin. The location
of the cemetery is just off Highway 287 on the right side of the highway at the Sunset exit in Montague Co., Texas.

NOTE: In the interest of accuracy and for the benefit of anyone trying
to do research I feel the need to point out the misspelling of a surname of
several of my relatives buried in the Sunset Cemetery. All of the "Hawks"
actually spelled their name HOWK. In the middle section row 11 are my
grandparents, Blanche and Homer HOWK. (Homer Newman, Raymond Newman, Lora
Reid and Viola Bowen in the same row were Blanche's siblings and Minnie May
and L. C. Newman were their parents.) On the South side row 26 is the HOWK
plot. Harvey and Harry HOWK are two of Pawpaw's three brothers and Bonnie
HOWK was Harvey's wife. In row 24 is Christine HOWK, who was Harvey's second
wife. The HOWK family moved to Sunset from Ohio when the boys were young and
they ran the Sunset Signal and the Sunset Waterworks. If you need
verification of the spelling, please refer to "Family of Blanche Lamont
Newman" on page 339 of The Cantrell-Newman Genealogy compiled by Mrs. W. E.
