The 10th and Austin Street Church of Christ

The Church of Christ was organized in Wichita Falls about twenty-five years ago with twelve charter members. Four of these charter members are still active members of the Church: W. W. Stirman, Mrs. O. C. Blanton, and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Hill. Mr. Stirman is Senior Elder and Mr. Hill is a Deacon. This organization met for one year in the Court House, then they built a small church on Bluff Street between 11th and 12th streets. As they grew they enlarged this house three different times, and twelve years ago, 1922 they bought the present Church from the Baptist congregation for $50,000. This Church has had a steady growth from the beginning.

In 1930 the congregation bought the property joining the Church and fronting on Austin, and now own altogether a 150-foot square on the corner, with 150 frontage on Tenth and 150 frontage on Austin. A six-room house on this Austin Street property is used for Sunday School classes.

Rev. L. S. White is serving his tenth year as pastor of the Church. The membership is between 800 and 900. The average Sunday School attendance is from 520 to 550, and about twice that many attend preaching services each Sunday. Mr. K. C. Moser is Assistant Minister.
