Newton THE VERNON SUN - established 1884 by Mrs. William Edgell Tschffely THE VERNON WEEKLY CALL - established 1889 by D.D. McConnell; purchased in 1919 from McConnell heirs by Charles P. Ross and T.L. Rouse. THE VERNON TIMES - Successor to Vernon Call; published by Ross and Rouse until latters' death in 1936; Ross continued as editor until retirement in 1949; publication taken over in 1949 by corporation headed by R.B. Anderson and W.H. Wright; purchased by Vernon Daily Record in 1957 and continued as a weekly publication. THE VERNON GLOBE - established 1894 by Judge J.P. Orr THE VERNON HORNET - established 1896 by E.S. Hendrick; purchased by J. Ray in 1907 and changed to Vernon Record. THE VERNON RECORD - succeeded the Vernon Hornet in January 1908, J. Ray editor and publisher; in 1913 R.H. Nichols acquired a 1/4 interest; in 1915 George J. Mason joined with Nichols in acquiring Ray's interest; in 1917 Buford O. Brown acquired Mason's interest; in 1919 Nichols disposed of interest and moved to Amarillo; in 1920 Brown sold interest to E.C. Christian; in 1923 Nichols acquired Christian's interest and continued as editor and publisher until January 1, 1961, selling to a corporation headed by T.B. Quillin but remaining as editor. Published weekly from 1908 to 1917, semi-weekly 1917 to 1925, daily from that time to present. THE ODELL REPORTER - established 1912 by Charles P. Ross as successor to the Odell Enterprise which had been published briefly; purchased by Vernon Record in 1917 and discontinued. At different times newspapers were published briefly in Harrold. Dates of founding and names of editors and publishers are unavailable. They were THE HARROLD GAZETTE and THE HARROLD TIMES. Henry Weimhold published the ODELL NEWS a short time following suspension of the Odell Reporter.
