After the Revolution, land was made available on the western frontier. At that time, New York state was the frontier. Many towns and cities all over New England felt the impact as their sons and daughters took advantage of the open spaces. A large number of Terrys, their cousins by blood or marriage, and their friends arrived in New York in the late 1700s. My Terrys settled in one of the Sangerfield Townships known at the time as Terrytown (now part of North Brookfield). Others settled in towns close by.
The wives of the next few generations of Terrys were, for the most part, from the surrounding area's many new townships. Their families came not only from Connecticut and Massachusetts, but from other New England states as well. As the later generations and mid 1800s followed, they traveled a bit further afield for their mates. Some stayed put and a few are there still. Some cousins moved further west in New York and others followed the call of golden opportunities awaiting them on the far off western coast and the many places in between.
