The history of my Rogers family in New England starts the with great-grandson (Nathaniel) of an early Puritan Martyr of Old England, and his father, the Rev. John Rogers2 of Dedham, Essex, in England who's grandfather was the Rev. John Rogers.

John Rogers, was the Prebendary of St. Pauls, Vicar of the St. Sepulchre, and The Proto-Martyr in the reign of Queen Mary. He was the first of a group of ministers to be burnt at the stake when Mary became Queen of England.
Mary came to the throne in July 1553, and on the 16th of Aug. 1553, John was imprisoned. On January 22d, 1555 he was brought to trial and on Feb. 4th, 1555 he was burnt at the stake.

He and his wife had 10 children.
(1) 1. Daniel1
(2)
2. Rev. Richard Rogers1
(3) 3. A son 1 - the father of Rev. John Rogers2 - said to have died young, who's name is now unknown.

This information comes from an article published in the New England Histstorical & Genealogical Register Vol. 5 for the year 1851. printed in 1851. pages 105-152 and continued on pages 311-330 and then continued again in some other volume. The information from the article was gleaned from a number of early histories and from Fox's Acts and Monuments. I have left all references intact and they are in italics. These appeared at the bottom of many of the original printed pages, so are dispersed throughout the web page's text.

There is lots interesting information in this artical available on the three descendants listed in the book and those related by marriage. In addition to the information about Nathaniel Rogers, you will find the trial information of John the Martyr, lots of bios. of many family members, a number of Hubbard marriages, lots of information on the Hon. John Leverett, The Whittingham family and much more...
