Alpheus Joel Burt, 1834-1908
     Alpheus Joel BURT, son of Joel Hurt BURT and Mildred Ann OWEN, was born on 16 March 1834 in Talbot County, Georgia.1 He was a farmer, a master Mason and a Methodist.2

His father died on 8 June 1847 in Pleasant Hill, Talbot County, Georgia, when Alpheus was 13.3,4

Alpheus married Amanda Maria KIMBROUGH on 5 October 1858 in Harris County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary (Rosser) Kimbrough. They had four children.1,2,5 The couple lived at Fortson, Harris County, Georgia where A. J. enlisted in the Confederate army.

Alpheus began military service in 1862 in Harris County, Georgia, when he enlisted in Company B, Capt. Pride, 31st Georgia Infantry Regiment under Col. Evans. His service was short and uneventful as he was taken sick in Savannah and had to be sent home.2

Alpheus Joel BURT died on 11 April 1908 in Harris County, Georgia, at age 74.6 He was buried in Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Harris County, Georgia.6
