Wilmer married Ruby Henry BURT, daughter of Henry McKenzie BURT and Margaret Mims CURRY, on 14 April 1914 in Talladega County, Alabama. Ruby met the handsome Yankee by tossing her program onto his bald head from the balcony of the Monticello Opera House. This was on a dare from two of her boyfriends, who had to pay her a gold piece for the deed.1,2
Wilmer Wilson BASSETT died on 26 February 1969 in Monticello, Jefferson County, Florida, at age 84.3 He was buried in Roseland Cemetery, Monticelllo, Jefferson County, Florida.3
