Peyton Talley Graves
     Peyton Talley GRAVES, son of David GRAVES and Mary Russell, was born circa 1823 in Lowndes County, Alabama.

Peyton married Meliora Ann Andrews on 30 September 1841 in Lowndes County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Moses Andrew and Mary Ann Walton. William Rice, minister of the gospel, performed the service.1,2

Peyton Talley GRAVES and Meliora Ann Andrews appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 21 October 1850 in Lowndes County, Alabama. The household was listed as Peyton T. Graves, a 27-year-old planter and his 24-year-old wife, Meleosa [Melora].They had four children: David R; Moses A., 5; Thomas J., 3; and Mary A., 2. Peyton had real estate valued at $4,000. The slave census for 1850 shows that he owned 26 slaves.3

Peyton Talley GRAVES died on 2 March 1886 in Manack, Lowndes County, Alabama. He was buried in Graves Burying Ground. No tombstone was found for him when the cemetery was surveyed in 2009, however there was one for Melora.

His obituary appeared 8 March 1886 in the Montgomery Daily Advertiser, published in Montgomery, Alabama. "Mr. P. T. Graves died at his residence at Manack yesterday about noon. He will be buried today at 2 o'clock at Manack. He has a number of relatives and friends in this city who will regret to hear of his death."
